SRHR AWARENESS SESSION AT ST. PATRICK SECONDARY SCHOOL(WINNING WITH WOMEN AND GIRLS)
St. Patrick’s Form One pupils were warmly welcomed to school with their first Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) awareness session, implemented by The Youth Platform – TYP 360 under the Winning with Women and Girls project (WWW.G) supported by Her Voice Fund in Choma District, Southern Province. The awareness session focused specifically on abstinence as the topic of the day.

The discussion aimed at empowering adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) with knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their Sexual and reproductive health and their future. As adolescents begin experiencing puberty and face increasing peer pressure and social influences, understanding the value of abstinence was emphasized as a key strategy in preventing early pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

During the interactive session, young people openly shared the challenges they face in trying to abstain. Many expressed that the environments they are exposed to, as well as peer influence and societal expectations, can make it difficult to remain committed to their values.
Through guided discussions and practical examples, facilitators addressed these concerns and encouraged participants to reflect on their personal goals and choices. By intentionally creating a safe and supportive space for honest dialogue, the session fostered self-awareness, resilience, and positive decision-making.
Together, we continue to empower adolescent girls and young women with the knowledge, skills, and support they need to lead healthy, informed, and confident lives.
