ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN CHOMA DISTRICT BENEFIT FROM THE ONGOING AWARENESS AND INTERACTIVE SESSIONS CONDUCTED BY THE YOUTH PLATFORM 360.
Over 80 adolescents and young people at St Patrick’s Secondary School continue to benefit from the powerful and consistent engagement through The Youth Platform 360. Adolescence is a stage filled with curiosity, emotional turmoil, potential negative peer influence, and various pressures. As a result, many young people struggle with:
- Lack of confidence to say “no” to unsafe sexual behaviors
- Fear of losing a partner when they insist on protection
- Myths and misinformation about sex
- Limited communication skills in relationships
Through interactive discussions, real-life scenarios, and practical communication techniques, TYP 360 continues to equip learners with:
- Assertiveness and confidence-building skills
- Practical negotiation strategies for safer sex
- Decision-making and boundary-setting tools
- The ability to resist risky situations
- Accurate information about preventing STIs, including HIV

The session created a safe and open space where adolescents and young people could ask questions freely, share experiences, and learn without judgment.
“I personally didn’t know that I could tell my partner to use protection during sex because I thought that when he says he wants it, I have no choice but to accept,” said Letisha Mweene, an adolescent.

The continued engagement by Youth Platform 360 is making a meaningful difference in the lives of adolescents and young people in Choma District. By providing accurate information, practical skills, and a supportive environment, the program is empowering young people to make informed decisions, protect themselves from risky behaviors, and build healthier relationships.
