June 2025 Highlights from the Winning with Women and Girls (WWW.G) Project and the Youth-Led Advocacy Project Supported by Her Voice Fund and ActionAid through SIDA

Across Zambia, adolescent girls and young people are rising as powerful advocates for their health, rights, and futures. In June 2025, two transformative initiatives, the Winning with Women and Girls (WWW.G) project and the Youth-Led Advocacy Project, continued to drive meaningful change in Choma, Livingstone, Kazungula, and Chipata districts.

Winning with Women and Girls (WWW.G): Leadership in Action

Funded by Her Voice Fund

The WWW.G project is equipping Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) with life and leadership skills to hold health systems accountable and reduce HIV infections. June saw a surge in outreach activities, mentorship sessions, and high-level youth participation:

  • Local Leadership: AGYW contributed to HIV/AIDS Committee planning in Choma and joined trainings in agri-food enterprise and paralegal advocacy, expanding their impact beyond health.
  • SRHR Outreach Sessions in schools and communities provided AGYW with accurate, youth-friendly information on menstrual hygiene, contraception, HIV prevention, and STI care.
  • Mentorship Programs helped AGYW build decision-making, assertiveness, and communication skills, empowering them to make informed choices and lead change.
  • Youth Representation at National Platforms: AGYW participated in the Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) meeting, influencing national health discussions and electing a young woman as subsistent youth leader.
  • Regional Advocacy: A Zambian AGYW representative delivered a powerful presentation at the AfriYAN-led Social Accountability Meeting in South Africa, calling for free and universal access to SRHR services.
Youth-Led Advocacy Project: Voices Leading Change

Supported by ActionAid through SIDA

In Kazungula and Chipata, the Youth-Led Advocacy Project is amplifying adolescent voices through awareness campaigns, community dialogues, and strategic partnerships:

  • School-Based Sessions & Social Media Campaigns reached over 12,000 youth, sparking a 40% increase in access to contraception, HIV testing, and counselling.
  • Youth Champions are stepping forward, sharing personal stories of overcoming stigma and seeking SRHR services.
  • Traditional Leader Engagements across four chiefdoms tackled early marriage, GBV, and harmful practices. Chiefs pledged to revise bylaws and invest in women’s groups to protect girls.
  • Collaborative Service Delivery: TYP360 strengthened ties between schools, clinics, and community actors, ensuring youth-friendly services are accessible and trusted.

A Unified Vision for Youth Empowerment

Together, these projects are cultivating a generation of informed, confident, and proactive youth leaders. Whether through national policy spaces or village-level dialogues, young people are shaping a Zambia where SRHR is a right, not a privilege.
