RAHi 2025: Building on Success, Amplifying Adolescents and Young People’s Voices

The 2025 Regional Adolescent Health Indaba (RAHi) is set to build on the remarkable success of last year’s event, promising to be even bigger, bolder, and more impactful. Under the visionary leadership of Sibu Malambo, Executive Director of TYP (The Youth Platform) a clarion call has been made to adolescents and young people, stakeholders, and partners across the region to come on board and co-create this year’s RAHi. The goal is clear: to foster collaboration, innovation, and action in addressing the pressing health challenges faced by adolescents and young people (AYP) in Zambia and the region at large.
This year, a dedicated committee will be formed to ensure the seamless planning, execution, and implementation of RAHi 2025. The committee, comprising young people, health experts, partners and key stakeholders, will be expected to work tirelessly to design an event that not only reflects the needs and aspirations of young people but also drives tangible change in adolescent health outcomes.
RAHi 2025 will once again be hosted in Lusaka, Zambia, a location that has proven to be a hub for meaningful dialogue and action. With the anticipation of increased participation from adolescents and young people, stakeholders, government agencies, NGOs, private sector, UN agencies and international organizations, this year’s event is expected to attract a diverse and dynamic audience.
One of the most exciting developments for RAHi 2025 is the anticipated participation of more countries from the region. Last year’s event saw representatives from several nations, and this year, the organizers aim to expand this network, fostering cross-border collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Additionally, the event will prioritize the inclusion of adolescents and young people from all 10 provinces of Zambia, ensuring that the voices of marginalized and underserved communities are heard. RAHi 2025 is not just a conference; it is a platform for co-creation. Adolescents and Young People are being encouraged to take an active role in shaping the agenda, contributing research and innovation, ideas, and leading discussions on issues that matter most to them. From sexual reproductive health and rights, HIV, mental health, UHC and climate change, the event will cover a wide range of topics, all with a focus on empowering AYP to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
While the theme and official dates for RAHi 2025 is yet to be announced, the excitement is already building. Stakeholders and young people are urged to stay tuned for updates, as the committee works to finalize the details of what promises to be a transformative event.
Sibu Malambo’s call to action is clear: “We need to continue enhancing prevention efforts therefore we urge our governments to increase domestic financing for health towards prevention – We cannot achieve meaningful change without the active involvement of adolescents, young people and stakeholders. RAHi 2025 is an opportunity for us to come together, share innovative solutions and reflect on recent data and take collective action to improve the health and well-being of adolescents and young people across the region.”
