Western Community Accountability Project (WCAP), funded by the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), recently hosted a two-day learning and sharing workshop in Mongu Town. The workshop brought together key stakeholders to share ideas, experiences, and best practices from their diverse experiences in the project..
The WCAP is a unique project by TYP that is anchored upon PEPFAR’s Community-led Monitoring (CLM) principles focussed on improving HIV Recipients of Care’s experiences in access to HIV Services such as HIV treatment, HIV Viral Load (VL) services, HIV prevention, HIV/TB Co-infection and HIV related stigma and discrimination. Being routine data collection, the project also ensures issues that require immediate solutions are flagged for relevant stakeholders’ action for the benefit of affected communities.
The workshop, held on 12th and 13th August 2024 aimed to provide a platform for stakeholders to engage and identify areas for improvement in implementing the WCAP project. Participants included project staff from all 16 districts of Western Province, community leaders and representatives, civil society organizations, government officials from relevant ministries, and implementing partners.
“The workshop was a huge success, with stakeholders sharing their successes and challenges, and identifying best practices and lessons learned,” said Sibu Malambo Executive Director the Youth Platform. “We are confident that the outcomes of the workshop will inform our implementation strategy and enhance our efforts to achieve the project’s objectives.”
The WCAP project, currently being implemented in all 16 districts of Western Province, aims to strengthen the capacity of local organizations and communities to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The project has made significant progress since its inception, and the workshop was an important milestone in ensuring that stakeholders are equipped to address the needs of the communities they serve.
The workshop resulted in improved understanding and knowledge sharing among stakeholders, identification of areas for improvement and potential solutions, strengthened partnerships and collaboration among stakeholders, and enhanced capacity and knowledge of stakeholders in addressing project objectives.
The WCAP project will continue to support and empower stakeholders to achieve its objectives and create a lasting impact in Western Province.
