Communications Lead

Shape how a regional youth movement is seen, heard and remembered — across media, brand, story and campaign.

About The Youth Platform

The Youth Platform (TYP) is a regional network that amplifies young people’s movements, influences governance, and promotes youth leadership in the economic, social and political development of the region.

We advocate for the protection of adolescents’ rights and dignity — working to multiply the faces and amplify the voices of young people at every level. Our work spans youth empowerment, coordinated advocacy, non-stigma environments, leadership development and community engagement.

The role

We’re looking for a proactive, creative and strategic communicator to strengthen TYP’s visibility, brand identity, advocacy voice and public engagement. You’ll lead our internal and external communications, media positioning, digital presence, content production and the documentation of our impact.

You’re a strong writer and storyteller with a feel for media engagement, branding and advocacy-driven content. You take initiative, work across programs, and know how to position TYP and its leadership as credible voices on youth, health, development and governance.

What you’ll do

01

Mainstream media strategy & visibility

  • Develop and run a media strategy across TV, radio, print and online platforms.
  • Spot strategic moments — World Health Day, International Youth Day, World AIDS Day, 16 Days of Activism — and build TYP’s presence around them.
  • Position directors and senior staff as thought leaders through op-eds, interviews, appearances and public commentary.
  • Draft press releases, media advisories, opinion articles, speeches, talking points and briefing notes.
  • Monitor coverage and keep records of TYP’s media mentions and communications impact.
02

Internal & external communications

  • Own TYP’s brand materials — brand manuals, style guides, messaging frameworks and tone of voice.
  • Support policy documents, institutional profiles, capacity statements, concept notes and reports.
  • Produce annual reports, newsletters, success stories, donor updates and impact documentation.
  • Keep every communication consistent, clear and professional.
  • Work with program teams to turn technical work into compelling, advocacy-oriented content.
03

Media relations & stakeholder engagement

  • Build lasting relationships with journalists, editors, media houses, influencers and partners.
  • Organize media workshops, press briefings, roundtables and awards.
  • Maintain an up-to-date media contact database.
  • Lead PR for TYP events, campaigns and launches, and find partnerships that grow our credibility.
04

Digital content, website & social media

  • Grow TYP’s social platforms with consistent, strategic content.
  • Build social calendars, campaign plans, graphics, captions and short videos.
  • Keep the website accurate, current and on-brand.
  • Track performance metrics and report on what’s working.
05

Multimedia, documentation & storytelling

  • Coordinate photography, videography and documentary production.
  • Develop human-interest stories, case studies and testimonials from TYP programs.
  • Support short videos, reels, campaign visuals and event highlights.
  • Keep an organized archive of photos, videos, publications and coverage.

Who we’re looking for

Qualifications & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, PR, Media, Marketing, Development Studies or a related field.
  • 2–5 years’ relevant experience in communications, media, PR, advocacy or development communications.
  • Experience in the NGO, development, youth, health or governance space strongly preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading and storytelling skills.
  • A track record engaging media houses, journalists and digital audiences.
  • Comfort with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Mailchimp and WordPress.

Skills & competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with sharp editorial judgment.
  • Able to simplify technical information for different audiences.
  • A creative mind with strong visual and storytelling instincts.
  • Independent, proactive, and able to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Professional in representing the organization externally.

What success looks like

  • A clear, consistent TYP brand across every platform and document.
  • Greater visibility for TYP in mainstream and digital media.
  • Regular newsletters, reports, stories, press materials and digital content.
  • Stronger media relationships and public positioning of TYP leadership.
  • High-quality documentation of our programs, campaigns and impact.
